Trip to Cuba – Varadero

My partner and I went to Cuba and stayed at Sandals Royal Hicacos Resort & Spa. Let me tell you, this vacation was the most amazing vacation ever. The resort was very beautiful. And not a long drive from the airport, only about 30 minutes. The rooms are kind of secluded so you feel a sense of privacy. This was an all inclusive resort that does not accommodate for children. It is an adult only resort. So if you want some peace and quiet away children, this is the place to be.

The rooms were very nice and the bed was amazingly comfortable. The beach was only a two minute walk from the room. That was the best thing about that resort. The beach was immaculate! The sand was smooth and the water was jet blue and calm as a clam. The first morning we went on the beach, it felt like paradise. It was so peaceful and tranquil……maybe because there were no kids around….just kidding. The water was so calm that you could walk in as far as possible because the slope was not steep. The water was so clean to the point where not even a blade of grass was in it. The only thing you see when you are on the beach is blue, blue, blue and a peaceful calming effect.

Well so much for the beach. The food was kinda ok. There was variety and plenty, but it was bland. Before we left to Cuba one of our friends told us to take some hot sauce with us. We didn’t believe her. Don’t get me wrong, the food was good and there were lots of variety. I enjoyed the fact that one day for lunch they had whole fishes and they were putting them on the grill….that really made my day because I am a lover of seafood.

There was a show every night in the open stage. One night they had a magician and guess he called up on the stage….you guessed right….your truly. He did an act where he blind folded me. I was scared to death, but I did it anyway. It was a lot of fun!

We booked some tours from our travel agent tour guide at the hotel. We went to Havana; the bus drive was very long, about 2 hours. Havana was beautiful! The ambiance, the people and everyone seen so calm and relaxed in Havana. During the night on the same tour we went to a Tropicana show….it was spectacular! Never seen a show like that before.

We also took a bus ride out of the resort into the city to do some shopping. There are lots of small shops along the road and everyone is so welcoming and nice. We went to the local beach and had lunch at one of the café. It was a different experience form being at the resort. Getting off the resort is highly recommended. All the cars on the street were all vintage….something you will never see anywhere else.

Overall, our trip to Cuba was an excellent one and we plan to go back there again in the future.
